A hammock is a great addition to anyone's backyard during the spring, summer, or fall, providing a means of relaxation and time to one's self while enjoying the view of the neighborhood. Many doctors go so far as to advocate a hammock as a means of stress reduction, and most models can be easily purchased and installed in the same day, some for as little as a hundred dollars. A hammock canopy takes the comfort one-step further by allowing one to swing free in the shade during the hottest days of summer. Some hammock canopies are sold in tandem with the hammock itself, and others are stand-alone models. Choosing a sun canopy is simply a matter of what type would fit best in your back yard!

Brookstone Innovations markets a hammock canopy designed to aid against the strongest glare by providing an all encompassing shade against direct sunlight. The Brookstone canopy is a stand-alone model -- hammock not included! -- That stretches over a fifty square foot area to protect any size hammock. This canopy is constructed of acrylic synthetic fiber and is resistant to wind and rain damage. The fabric resists UV absorption, so it is not heated as it provides shade. The Brookstone canopy is available in two colors, Nantucket Green and Bedford Blue, and retails for one hundred fifty dollars.

Hatteras Hammocks are all in one models for a full experience, using a type of weather resistant fabric called DuraCord. DuraCord resists staining, mildew, and animal damage with a tough outside layer, shielding the linen against water and tears. A fiberglass frame keeps the canopy above the hammock at all times, not requiring adjustments during the course of the day due to the size of the covered area. Two extension poles allow for complex set ups -- on sandy beaches or non-level terrain -- to be done easily. At one hundred seventy dollars, the Hatteras Hammocks are some of the cheaper options on the market.

For the highest end product on the market, a hammock canopy swing by AceCanopy cannot be beaten for convenience, using a two-ply system to maintain level standing while the hammock itself swings. A lever to the frame itself allows customers to swing themselves from the base, and at seventy five feet, the canopy itself is larger than any other model available. The cost, however, is in line with the capability; an AceCanopy swing retails for three hundred fifty dollars.
